Don't you all just love the rose and teal combination? The pink countertop went very well with the stained carpet on the floor. Yep, that is carpet on the bathroom floor, and a carpet baseboard. I cannot even begin to describe how nasty this carpet was. It scared me. These were some classy people. The mirror was also cracked and the bathtub had pink sea-shells stuck to the bottom of the tub.
Here is our bathroom after:
Of course I had to get this plaque as soon as I saw it in the catalog. I felt like it was made for me. I have it hanging above the bathroom door in the hallway. I just love it. Here are the pictures of the bathroom:
What we did:
1. Ripped up all the lovely carpet and put in slate tile. I love the slate, the pictures just don't do it justice.
2. Ripped down all the wallpaper and painted the walls a dark purple color (called Grape Thistle just in case you wanted to know).
3. Sanded and painted the drawers and cabinet Decorator White and installed brushed silver handles.
4. Removed the lovely pink counter-top and had a new sink installed with granite counter-top.
5. Installed new light fixture, TP holder, towel holders and faucet.
6. Removed old mirror and hung heavy-ass medicine cabinet (which fell on me after it was hung the first time). I can't even lift this thing with another person, so when it fell on me, it was not fun at all. BSC was in the garage and couldn't hear the screams coming from inside. I'm still a bit leary about opening any of the doors ... it might fall on me again.
So there we have it: our bathroom. I'm quite proud of this one. It's really not my typical style or colors, but I feel like it turned out well. The next room I will post is the kitchen. I just have to have the backsplash tile done, then I'll be able to post pictures.

oooooohhhh!! love it! we had a purple bathroom in our old house.
that's awesome! i love the color. go weber state! we have a purple bathroom, too. so does rainbow. well done, loo.
k, tell me...how do you do it?! I am currently in the process of ripping down all of the "lovely" seafoam and pearl pink wallpaper plastered throughout our whole house! And I don't even know what colors I'm going to paint--just that it HAS to get out of my house! And isn't this costing you a ton of money? Updating houses aren't cheap. Got any secrets? Because your house looks AMAZING!
Wow! I love the purple bathroom, and it doesn't look girly. Your house is going to be be Beautiful when you guys are done with it.
Seeing your pictures makes me want to repaint my house now too!
Little Miss - It has cost us a lot of money, but we knew we were going to be doing this so we had a bit of a nest-egg tucked away just for home remodeling.
Hmmmm, advice? I would say that it's worth every penny to not skimp on things like tile or hardwood that will increase the value of your house. As for decorating, I got most of my stuff from cheaper places like Bed Bath and Beyond or Pier One. They tend to carry the same decorations as the high-end stores for a lot less. Plus, BB&B and Pier One always have sales and coupons. Each of the rooms we have re-done have one or two really nice items, the rest are cheap accents to help draw attention to the nicer things in the room. For example: the little white storage tower in the bathroom came from Wal-Mart for $20. I saw the EXACT same thing in the Pottery Barn Catalog for about $300 (not to mention shipping charges).
It all takes a lot of patience, trial & error, frustration and time. It's taken us almost a full year to get to this point and we're not even half way done. Good luck with your remodeling! Keep us posted!
This is my favorite room yet! Go you.
delicious. like a luxury hotel.
