You smell like 9th grade

Before we get started, do you want to know what really angers me? Ignorance. Pure, idiotic, ignorance. I can't tell you the exact reason I'm so angry, but I'll give you a hint. It has to do with the fact that Martin Luther King Jr. Day is on Monday ... it's amazing that some people are still so judgemental and racist. It's just sickening. (And BTW, I don't have Monday off work. NO FAIR!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With that out of the way, I got this idea from Mrs. Belle.
The other day I was wandering through the men's section of a department store. As I passed the cologne aisle a scent came through the air and slapped me all the way back to ninth grade. It was a scent I hadn't smelled in years, but I recognized the minute it hit the tip of my nose. It was my first "serious" (as serious as they can be at that age) boyfriend's cologne. Visions of akward dances, stolen kisses in his bedroom, and double dates with friends passed through my mind. It's amazing how fast a scent can take you down memory lane.
The same thing happens with songs. Any time I hear "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton it reminds me of junior prom, or any Latino dance song reminds me of going out dancing in Colombia with my middle-school friends and hiding in the bathroom from the short stalker-guy who claimed to be my soul-mate. As soon as I hear the opening notes to "Under Pressure" I want to sing "Stop. Collaborate and listen ... Ice, Ice baby ..." I never hear songs from New Kids anymore, but I can remember pining for Joey and wondering why Danny was so weird looking. Ahhh, the good ol' days.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have you ever noticed how some people are really slow? Not mentally (yes, some people are mentally slow too, but that's not what I'm talking about). I was in line to purchase some silk flowers over my lunch break today. Only one person was in line ahead of me. The girl a the cash register was SO SLOW. It's like everything she did was in slow motion, and there was no multi-tasking whatsoever. As someone who has worked retail for most of her life, I'm very picky about this. When you swipe the credit card and are waiting for authorization, don't sit and stare at the machine until the signature authorization prints out. Go wrap up the customer's items and get them ready to go. What a waste of time! This girl was soooooooo slooooowwww (said in deep slow-motion voice). I got quite annoyed. She wasted 15 good minutes of my lunch break.

Don't worry I don't have MLK day off either. But I'm going to try to get off early! He He.

Totally know what you mean about the smells and songs... good ole '80s early '90s! And as for New Kids on the Block I always liked Jordan.

No MLK day off for me either! So sad! I said I needed to celebrate my heritage - and even did some rap to show it off - but no dice!

you are SO RIGHT about danny being weird looking. how did he ever get on a boy-band? i also wonder that about the blonde funny-looking kid from 98 degrees. it's like he was everybody's friend, but it was well-known that he was the ugly kid in the group. they all still liked him and wanted to hang out with him so they brought him along.

he probably had a great personality.

that's where that song "Mr. Personality" orginally came from.

poor, danny. he didn't get any poonani with NKOTB.

The only way I got MLK day off is because I quit Crazyworld.

I have Nana set up as the ICE person on my cell phone (Ice Case of Emergency) so every time she calls I sing "Ice Ice Nana" to that song. Of course she doesn't know this.

by the way (yes, it's a slow day so i'm stalking your blog and leaving you another message) does smelling like 9th grade smell anything like teen spirit?

Just Me - Jordan was cute too, he was my second choice. At least someone else in this world has to work today. So sad for us!

Kara - You should have heard the comment my boss made about this holiday. It was not nice. I'll have to IM you today, you can keep me company.

Nytro - Yep, the stalking continues. I saw this "Where are they now?" special and Danny was on there. He's still very weird looking but he's married and has a kid. They live in a HUGE house ... guess being a New Kid paid off big time for him. And yes, 9th grade does smell like Teen Spirit, and Nirvana.

Holli - I love singing that song! Ice Ice Nana ... hahaha!

ignorance in the dictionary? my stepdad

one of my deepest, darkest secrets? I went to a New Kids On the Block concert (and I liked it)

middle school smells like that fragrance from Debbie Gibson. Remember? in a hot pink bottle with a spiral thingy inside?

Every time I smell grape lipsmackers lip gloss I think of my high school girlfriend.

I also remember that Debbie Gibson perfume. Now that brings back some memories!

Also, I changed my blog address. I was losing anonymity.

Ok, all day I've had this stuck in my head:

I get lost, in your eyes
And I feel my spirits rise
And soar like the wind
Is it love that I am in?
I get weak in a glance
Isn't this what's called romance?
And that's what I know
Cause when I'm lost
I can't let go

I don't mind
Not knowing what I'm headed for
You can take me to the skies
It's like being lost in heaven
When I'm lost in your eyes

I just felt
Don't know why
Something is there
We can't deny
Ooh, when I first knew
Was when I first looked at you
And if I
Can't find my way
If salvation
Seems miles away
Oh, I'll be found
When I'm lost in your eyes

I get weak in a glance
Isn't this what's called romance
Oh, I'll be found
When I am lost
In your eyes.

THANKS A LOT PEOPLE!

Honestly, WHY did people think Danny was hot? Did people buy his pillowcase with his picture on it as much as Donnie and Jordan and *fans self* Jonathan's pillowcases? He was so strange looking!
