Untitled

Can I just say, as I assemble 700 Christmas cards (or if you prefer the politically correct name: holiday cards) for my company, I have to pat myself on the back. Part of my job entails designing all advertising and media for the company. My favorite job is the annual Christmas card. I must say that I truly think this year's card is the best yet. I would love to scan it in and show you, but that is a big no-no on my blog. Cannot tell you where I work, sorry. The card is a muted navy blue with silver lettering and a single snowflake adorning the top of the card. It opens horizontally to reveal a picture (not a photocopy, an actual picture on Kodak paper) of something pertaining to the company. So, my job today is to paste these pictures to the inside of all 700 cards and stuff them into the shiny cream-colored envelopes that match the picture's background. Fun times at work!

----------------------------------------------------------

I did a little Christmas shopping on my lunch break today. As I exited Nordstrom I decided that I deserved a little treat from their cafe. I ordered a small non-fat chai latte. Yummy! As I sat there watching the guy make it, I noticed that he poured whole milk into the cup instead of skim. I asked, "Is that the non-fat chai you're making?"
"Yes"
"Was that skim milk you poured in there, or was it whole?" (I didn't say this snidely, I was genuinely asking to make sure I saw what I thought I saw. I could have been mistaken.)
"Fine, I'll start over," he said as he dramatically tossed the latte into the trash.

Hmmm, bad service is starting to happen elsewhere. I should probably stay at home and never leave the house. The curse is getting worse!

as a girl who HATES shopping, but has somehow formed a love affair with nordstrom, your story made my heart break a little. this may sound dramatic, but seriously folks, if you can't get good service at nordies... it's pretty much over. maybe good service will be like ska music... it will revive itself in waves. what are we, on like the 6th wave of ska? come on second wave of good service!!!

on a related note (related to your post, at any rate...) - SUPER GLUE. have some at your desk before you start suffing cards!

What part of Nonfat doesn't he get?

I have to stuff our christmas calendars today at work... bah! Not fun at all. My boss has been on my back for ages to get them done. I like to fight the power!

LOL! i can't believe that!

as much as benny and i would like to meet you and bsc (since we are leading parallel lives), we obviously cannot because you're bad karma would ruin the wonderful service we usually get when we go out to eat.

such a shame! we're always looking for childless couples to hang out with.

I do have bad karma! My parents are very iffy about eating out with us anymore. Just this past Sunday we went out with Jimps and his wife. Our waiter at Texas Roadhouse was kinda rude and our rolls were burned. I told them to just blame everything on me. It's not the waiter's fault, it's mine.

I wonder if I should challenge the guy from WaiterRant to wait on me. I'd love see if he could overcome my bad karma.

That would be fun for us to meet, although the universe might implode upon two people with parallel lives meeting ... could be dangerous.

I REALLY want to see your christmas cards! Sounds like you did a good job. Mine? um, not so much. I think I'll post merry christmas on my blog, then mail everyone the link.

; )

i'm making my christmas cards this year too. the rule is this though: no silly family newsletter and i will only send out a card if we get one from them first. this card sending is simply to stop me from feeling guilty when i get a card from them.

being married to an ex-barista i can't share your frustration. sometimes (esp during the holidays) baristas have bad days too . . . today i grabbed the wrong debit card to pay for my lunch and didn't notice until later . . . maybe he just grabbed the wrong milk but didn't realize it? the holidays are hard on everyone.

ok, i'm done defending the barista. friends?

I'm not offended that you defended the Nordstrom guy at all, we all need people on our side!

It didn't bother me that he made a mistake on the drink, everyone makes mistakes. It bothered me that he was so offended I pointed out that he used whole milk and not skim. Instead of an apology, I got a snide and sarcastic remark. It was totally uncalled for!

i'm sad about christmas cards by the way. i normally handpaint mine... i send out about eighty original water colours each year.

this year? thanks a real whole lot, gimpy thumb.
