Ho hum

I've had a few ideas for posts lately, but I'm kinda in a ho-hum mood right now. So I'm going to save those ideas for another day and just update you on my life. Because I know all of you are just dying to know what's happening with me ... as it should be!

The house is coming along fine. All painting is done upstairs except for the kitchen ... wait just a gosh-darn minute, we have no kitchen! All of the kitchen cabinets have been torn out and replaced in the garage and laundry room. The only reason the kitchen is now considered a kitchen at all is because the old fridge still there, keeping our meager amounts of food edible. All flooring has been removed, so when you walk into the house you can hear your ECHO ... echo. The new tile and carpet will be installed this week, which will finally make our house look like a home instead of a nasty construction site.

We have moved onto fixing the basement and yard now. My husband's bar (or, "Sooner Lounge" as he has so creatively named it) has two coats of paint on it, but still needs at least one more. His bar (the actual piece of furniture, not the room) was delivered yesterday by our good friends (because there's no way I'm paying Z Gallerie $80 to deliver ONE piece of furniture!!). All wallpaper has been removed from the basement living room and is ready to be painted. I spent this weekend on the laundry room. The huge hole that once dampened my spirits on the house has now been patched up. The neon green and black carpet has been removed (thank GOD!) and the cement floor has been acid-washed and primed. The first coat of paint will be put on tonight after work. Brandon spent most of the weekend cleaning out the gutters (I'll let him tell that story) and raking leaves from trees that aren't even in our yard. I was just thinking ... Maybe it's a good idea to make every tree owner responsible for their own leaves. The only trees we have in our yard are pine trees. All other leaf-bearing trees come from the neighbors. I had good mind to walk over, knock on their doors, hand them a rake and bags with a hearty "good luck!" to come clean up my yard. But I didn't, I still want to fool them into thinking that we're good neighbors as long as we can. Too bad they'll be sorely disappointed when they find out who we really are.

Speaking of neighbors, we met another one. And she smells. Literally, stinks. After she left, I would still catch whiffs of her horrendous odor in the house. Nasty. Imagine that you're a smoker (some of you may not have to imagine), now imagine that you smoke an entire carton of cigarettes in one day. Now imagine that you smoke in your house, never opening windows or doors. Now imagine that you never wash your clothes or hair. That should give you some idea of how strong the stale cigarette smell was on this woman. Whoa mama!

I got my first phone call at our new house with our new phone number. I was super excited, until I realized that it was a solicitor. Crap, I forgot to put our number on the national do-not-call list! I unplugged the phone after that. And by the way, why is it that we have to PAY to have our number unlisted? It's not like my phone number is public information ... its MY phone number. Why do I have to pay the phone directory money to not be published? Sounds a bit idiotic to me.

Well, that's it. More to come later. Hope your weekends were as fun as mine!

Grrr...I don't EVER want to buy a fixer-upper. (I used to daydream about it, you know, the whole 'Ghost' thing, but now that i've got my own house...and it's hard enough to take care of without worrying about priming and bleaching and carpeting...ummm, no thanks.)

All that said, I am proud of you! MUST.POST.PICTURES!

if the only things your neighbors ever leave in your yard are leaves, consider yourself blessed.

i'm excited for you and your new home... but i think i'm most excited for me that i don't have to go through that again!! it sucked. it's always so nice when it starts to come together and you can finally see your vision in real-time... but, it still sucks my butt.

good luck!
