Girls, back me up here

I'm needing some support from all the ladies out there (and men, if you feel so inclined). I've made a decision, and I'm trying to convince my husband that it is a good decision, and in our best interest.

I want a dog.

Yes, I want a drooling, hyper, smelly dog to make me feel better about being in this house. The reason being that the past couple of times I went out to the new house, I was working on it alone, and it was at night. It totally creeped me out to be there by myself. We don't have an alarm system, and one of our doors is very unsafe (according to the inspector, we shouldn't even move in until this door is replaced because it's so flimsy, it shouldn't even be put on a play house.) I would feel much better and safer in the house if I had a big dog. I've decided on a husky or boxer. But I'm still trying to convince my husband that it's necessary to make me feel better about my sense of security.

Yes, we already have two cats ... but they would gladly welcome a stranger into our home as long as he/she was carrying a big juicy can of gross food (gross food is the name we have given to soft cat food ... yummy!). That, or they would gladly sacrifice my body to get away from the dangerous stranger, leaving me to suffer the wrath of whoever decides to break into our house.

"How often will you be there alone?" You might ask. Often enough. Because of my husband's job, he frequently doesn't get home until after 11:00pm. Very scary for me! He doesn't understand this. He thinks that I'll just get used to it. No, I won't, I need some protection. So either we're installing a hugely expensive alarm system, or I'm getting a dog. And that's final!

Feel free to help me in convincing him that this is a good idea.

hmmm... that's a tricky one and i'm sure that my husband would not agree with me on this, but i say DO IT. when benny is out of town for work, having that dog in the house brings me an incredible feeling of security. sure, she would most likely lick any intruder to death... but the intruders don't know that. if i had my druthers, though, i would have gotten a rotweiler with bailey's personality. those things look terrifying and are very protective of their owners. tell your husband that it must be done for your sanity. besides, you rarely hear about a woman being killed in her home while her dog watches. just a thought.

I want a dog, but just a little one that is cute and cuddley. But I have other reasons for a getting a dog. My husband says no, but I'm working on him, he now says we'll see after we get back from Austrailia. I'm sure I'll have one by Christmas.

btw... just saw on the news tonight how two dogs protected their two owners from a intruder. one was small, the other was a big one. another reason to get a dog... great for alerting you when something isn't quite right.

Thanks Nytro ... I'm still not sure he's convinced. I keep telling him that we could get an adult dog so we don't have to go through house-training and all that crap ... haha, crap, I'm so funny! I'll keep everyone posted on how the dog battle goes. Luckily we still have two or three weeks until we move in.

I'm totally with you on the dog thing, of course. Gizmo alerts me to all kinds of dangers - the consruction men sawing next door, the mailman, the neighbor cat sunning on our deck, etc.
But really, Kritter and Gizmo would let me know if there is something I need to worry about, and I would NOT be able to sleep alone in the house without them.
I need to put you in touch with my mom-in-law if you get to seriously thinking about a boxer. Even the "newer" boxers are serious dogs, but the old school ones are bigger and scarier.

If a dude wants to get in your house all he has to do is shoot the dog, but if you want a dog i would suggest a big one

Love my dog. Don't get two, though, that is where I made my mistake. One is perfect.

I won this battle, and TRUST ME... I never thought it would happen.

We have a dog, she's a pain in the ass at times, my husband complains, and yet...I love her. I feel safe with her, she's good with the children, and she likes to cuddle. What more could I ask for?

I've been told that boxers can be quite hyper, but they look tough. How about a bulldog? They're awesome, tough, sweet, and they fart audibly. Perfect for BSC, no?

of course you need a dog! i have 2 now (i saw your comment about my dog on daily confessions) and I love them! We have 2 little dogs who are more than willing to alert us of strangers/dangers. I say, go for it!

oh man, loo, oh man. i so wish i could go to bat for you but on this subject i just can not help. i am not a friend of the canine. they stink, their hair feels weird. i must wash my hands every time i touch them. and, as an oregon duck die hard, i must insist you stop talking about owning a husky. i can go with a boxer, maybe, because that was the name of simon and garfunkles best song. but as far as staying home alone... have you thought of pepper spray? who doesn't love a good macing. it's much funnier.
