So, I've had quite a few questions from friends asking about the place I work since my blog entry about my boss. I just finished reading "The Devil Wears Prada." It's a book about a girl who gets a job that "a million girls would die for" right out of college, only to find out that it's not as glamourous as it looks. Andrea becomes the junior assistant to Miranda Priestly, the most powerful woman in the fashion world and editor in-chief of "Runway" magazine. Though Andrea is not interested in fashion, she feels that a job like this could break her into the magazine world (with a recommendation from Miranda of course) and she could eventually write for "The New Yorker." If you would like to know how I feel at work everyday, or how frustrating it is to work for someone like my boss, read a little bit of this book. Don't pay attention to the frequent use of the "f" word, or the rather superficial undertone. I think the author was just trying to convey a typical Manhattan lifestyle. When I read the book it brought a sense of comfort knowing that there could be someone else in this world who has a boss just like mine, someone who dreads coming to work every day, someone who's heartrate and blood pressure sky-rockets any time the boss walks into the room.
For example:
Today is payday. At a normal workplace, payday is usually a rather happy day; people have an extra spring in their step and moods tend to be on the lighter side. Not here, payday is dreaded by all who work in my office ... especially me. I'm the one who does payroll (collects time cards, cut paychecks, pay payroll taxes, etc.), therefore in my boss' eyes I am the one responsible for payroll being so expensive. Because he has to pay out so much money in one single day, his mood is aweful. He yells and screams, he makes me double and triple check all of the paychecks to make sure nobody is cheating him out of any money, he yells at me because we have no money (he never remembers the fact that he just wrote a $10,000 check to his bum-of-a-son and that couldn't possibly be the reason we have no money for payroll). Today is a bad day. Today is payday.

Man, that is pretty crappy! I am sorry you have a frustrating job.
I want to link your blog to mine, but I cannot figure out how to do it. Where do you put in URLs?
GG
I couldn't agree with you more. And I'm right there with ya Loo. The moment our boss walks in...WATCH OUT! My heart skips at least three beats. And yes, that day was a very bad day, for the both of us.
