I make rules. As in, rules for living in the house BSC and I worked so hard to make into a home. Rules to keep the place as clean as possible so I don't freak out on a regular basis. Rules to keep things in order so I can easily find something when I need it.
BSC also has rules. Or should I say, anti-rules. For every rule I like to make, he makes one to oppose it.
For example:
I made a rule that no food items or their containers should be thrown away in any other trashcan than the one in the kitchen. This rule makes sense to me because after a little while, food starts to smell. I don't want to have to go around to every single trashcan in the house to find out why my house smells like rotting vegetables. The kitchen trashcan is emptied every other day, therefore, this eliminates any possibility of making my house smell like refuse. (Yes, I know I'm totally uptight and anal. I've come to terms with this, so should you!)
BSC's anti-rule for this:
Throwing his apple cores, banana peels, peach pits, and orange peels into a trashcan that I don't see very often, hidden in a corner of his bar.
The result:
Fruit flies. Our house has been invaded with fruit flies! Seriously, there are THOUSANDS of them. They are everywhere. No space is safe, no room is clear, the fruit flies have taken over! I can't even feed Nathan without a fruit fly diving into his jar of apples and cherries. It took me a couple of days to figure out why our house was attracting so many of these bugs. Remember that trashcan BSC filled with his fruit? It was never emptied. It sat for weeks.
I think BSC now realizes why such rules are important. Rules BSC ... RULES!

Fruit flies are the WORST! And it takes forever for them to completely die off.
Hopefully your hubby has learned his lesson... :)
I completely despise fruit flies! I don't think that that even qualifies as being anal. I think it's just being smart!
Yikes! Hopefully hubby will follow the rules from now on! Fruit flies are so hard to get rid of!
That's definitly a rule that needs to be followed. I hate fruit flies. Hopefully you can get ride of the infestation soon.
This cracks me up. Sometimes when I read your posts, I swear that I'm reading something I wrote! Good luck with the flies!
I admire you. You make rules and I am going to assume that most of them get followed. I make rules and get laughed at by the boys. I have given up and acknowledge that I have to be heinous to get a clean house :(
Giggling... I have the same trashcan rule too, though oddly enough, my biggest struggle with it was not with Eric but with a college roommate. Carrot peels, old soup cans, and other clearly kitchen-related-trash in the bathroom trash? Nonono. She was the greatest roommate I ever had though, and I still miss her.
if only fruit flies would attack whenever benny turned my dishtowel inside out and hung it up... because that's the only thing that would get him to change THAT particular annoying habit.
If you guys really want to come visit you should buy BSC a ticket to the Great American Beer Festival on Friday Oct. 12th and come for the weekend.
It's gonna be rad.
YEAH!!! Come for the weekend...the mamas can have wine and cheese at home while the daddy's get trashed and ride the train home :)
