Happy Halloween!

I love Halloween. I think it's SO much fun. When I was young enough to go trick-or-treating I would plan my costume months in advance in anticipation of the big day. My friends and I would start trick-or-treating by five and wouldn't come home until well after nine with our pillowcases full to the brim of tooth-rotting candy (and the occasional toothbrush). And yes, we had a dentist in our neighborhood who always gave out toothbrushes ... what a moron. I also couldn't stand those people who would set a bowl of candy on their front porch with a sign that said "TAKE ONE." What the crap? If you're too lazy to open your door for me, then I'll help myself to a FEW pieces of candy, not just one. How lame is that? If Halloween happened to fall on a weekend we would have a sleepover and play poker with our candy. One of us would always end up with one of those "king size" candy bars from a wealthy person's house and try to bet it against multiple crappy candy ... that person would always loose the cherished candy bar too.

Ohhh, I miss those days. I still enjoy dressing up in costumes when I get the chance. The first Halloween BSC and I spent together in our little Tulsa apartment was rather disappointing. I couldn't wait to get home and hand out candy to all of the cute little trick-or-treaters. I had been looking forward to it all day and even switched shifts with someone at work so I could get home early enough. But to my utter and awful disappointment we got not one single trick-or-treater. My huge bowl of candy went un picked that night (except for the occasional piece I had to console myself with). I was flabbergasted that nobody stopped by. Our porch light was on, we had carved pumpkins setting on the porch ... what more of a welcome do trick-or-treaters need? Apparently the apartment complex had sent out notices (which we never received) that we needed to post a sign on the door welcoming the trick-or-treaters to beg for candy at our door. I was so sad that year, though my co-workers relished in the fact that all the wasted candy was pawned off on them.

Though it was a full three seasons ago, I still fear that we won't have anyone stop by the house fully-clad with cute costumes, begging for candy. I'm super-excited about handing out candy to the kids tonight. We better get a lot of them because I think I may have overpurchased on the candy this year ... oops.

Happy Halloween! Hope you had lots of trick-or-treaters.

Your stash looks like mine and we did overbuy this year. But last year we ran out so I wasn't making the same mistake this year.

We ran out of candy last year too, so I bought a lot this year. We also have a pretty good stash left over - of course, we both got home late due to traffic so I think we missed the bulk of trick-or-treaters this year.

That's a lot of candy! I too got everything ready for trick or treaters...lit the pumpkin, dressed gracie up, had a big bowl of candy, and even the sign from the apartment complex...but i had no trick-or-treaters AT ALL! Very disappointing!
